Opening Genre Inspiration
We decided to chose action and adventure because it we like thrilling movies that keep us on the edge of our seats. They are very fast paced and I can connect with them really well.
One of my personal favorites is the Indiana Jones movie, Raiders of the Lost Arc. The opening of this film is considered by many to be the greatest action movie opening sequence ever shot. It starts off with Indiana Jones in the cave trying to capture the arc. He sees a pressure plate and presses it with a stick, so that he doesn't get shot by the arrow. He the approaches the arc and attempts to to replace it with a bag of sand in hopes of not setting of the trap that is most likely set under the arc. He fails and the trap is set off so him and his partner start running back through the cave trying not to get hit by the arrows firing out of the wall. His partners made it over the hole in the ground and convinces Indiana Jones to give him the arc and runs away with it. He then finds him dead around the next corner. When he escapes the cave he is chased away by the native people and reaches his plane where he flies away safely but without the arc. The way Speilberg directed the scene is like no other. All the action in is made me so excited, and the movie has just gotten started.
Some of my other personal favorites are the Marvel Avengers movies. Most of the action comes from the fighting scenes throughout the group of movies. They incorporates many aspects of what typically draw me into the story line of a movie. The fighting for the most part is the good guys vs the bad guys. One of my favorite movies is the first Iron Man movie. In the opener, Tony Stark, a billionaire who makes military weapons, is riding with US troops in a tank. The tank behind him got blown up and the shooting started. It then cuts to Tony in a large cell with a bunch of metal pieces all around it. The terrorists that kidnapped him want him to create the atomic bomb he had made just a few weeks earlier. He had to find a way to escape so he created a robotic suit that he controlled from inside. He used this to break and kill his way out of his cell where he was able to escape and get found by a passing helicopter. This scene was my favorite because of the way he engineered his suit, so that he had just what he needed to free himself. Each gadget and piece was used in it's own way to fight against the people who kidnapped him and "fly away" once he got out of the cave.
Overall I am a big action movie fan and am very excited to work on a film for the horror genre. These two movies helped inspire me to pick this genre.
