Film Opening Brainstorming
Rise- I really liked how this film opening was based on sports. I also liked the part where the music went along with the boy dribbling the ball. Also when it got louder when it switched to that player is a cool concept, but maybe if they had the music gradually get louder instead of cutting straight to the loud music would have made it flow more.
Offline- This was a pretty average horror movie opening. The girl being in the cage was pretty creative though. I thought the title could have been a little more creative as well.
Dear Lover- This was a cool concept for a film opening. How it went to the end so that the movie would be a flashback of how they had gotten into that position. Also the music was soft and made it enjoyable to watch.
Dare to Thrill- This was my favorite film opening by far. The music with the car was so energetic and lively. At the end of the film they open the trunk to see something inside. The camera angle coming from inside the trunk makes that scene that much better.
Always Watching- This film opening was very good. The idea of the boy taking over the other boy's identity is very interesting. I think they did a good job of having the audio of him talking to the therapist run the whole scene while he stalked his best friend. Also how in the rest of the movie we would find out what his best friend did to make him do that.
The Blue Boar- I liked this film opening. The way it just showed the mother's mouth when she was telling the girl she could no longer draw was cool. The way she made the boar with the leaves on the ground was interesting to say the least. I also thought the song she sang gave it a Disney princess kind of vibe which was cool.
White Coats- This was a really good film opening. The camera angles with the gasses and beakers being illuminated by the lighting in the dark made the film seem so professionally made. I like how they ended it with the guy finding something in the case but we could not see it from where the camera was, it made it suspenseful and wanting to watch more.
Stalker- I did not like this film opening at all. The lack of any music and just the dull noise the girl was making made it so awkward. Also the sound effect of the camera was pretty cheesy. I think they could have done a bit better on the ending as well, maybe by not having the camera being so shakey or having it be at a better angle facing the girl.
Nostalgia- I was confused by this film opening at first. I did not see the title and just saw an old on the screen the whole time. After re-watching it I understood it better. I did think it was kind of dull and boring, they could have had more interesting camera angles or something. I did like the part at the end where it switched from the old lady to her younger self.
Lost and Found- This film opening was all over the place. I did not understand how all the different characters tie into each other, it just seemed like random people walking around, doing their own thing, in one area.
Summary- I think I leaned a lot from these film openings. One thing is music is one of the most important if not the most important part of the film opening. The wrong music at the wrong time can ruin a whole opening. Also good camera angles and lighting make your film opening stand out at the crowd. I am excited to start filming and editing my own film opening in the coming weeks.
